Maternal and Infant Mental Health and Wellbeing seminar post retreat 2021

Following the close of the NZCMA Meeting/ Retreat on Saturday at 3.30pm, there will be a  Maternal and Infant Mental Health and Wellbeing seminar hosted at the same venue (Lyon room) following on, 4-8 pm for those interested in the development of wrap around holistic care and support for vulnerable pregnant women, their unborn and whanau.

This  seminar, is being led by Wellington based Midwife Deborah Murphy and supported by Dr Joseph and Cushla Hassan and Hemaima Hughes. The focus is on service development and meeting local needs. The free G.P. and primary care based Hapai Taumaha Hapūtanga – Crisis Pregnancy Support model of care run from a Charitable Trust will be presented. Also how we integrate and connect with all those currently doing incredible work to affirm life in this space.

Unfortunately in NZ, rapid abortion access and referral pathways for termination of pregnancy are a common response to a crisis pregnancy. We need to develop best practice pathways that are simple, robust and clear to support pregnant women wanting to explore how they may carry on with their pregnancy with hope and care.

More support is also required for women grieving following an abortion.
